HELP WANTED!
We are currently seeking writers. Please e-mail with any questions.
Like what we are doing and want to be part of it? We at Infinite Slides are dedicated to creating a site for the fans by the fans. You think you could do a good episode with our fivesome? We welcome all talent. Here is what you have to do:
Come up with a cool idea for a new episode. Easy enough. What Sliders fan doesn't have 50 great ideas of what they would like to see.
Send the Producer a brief synopsis of the episode at AliasAngel@psi-fi.com
Do not just send a teaser or you will probably be asked to clarify and explain your story idea more clearly.
Wait a day or two to see if your idea is approved. We are not extremely picky but it has to be one that we feel fits into out continuity, or isn't too similar to another story either on the TV show or in the works in Infinite Slides. We will send you an e-mail answer whether it will work as an episode or not. Keep in mind that even if it is denied as an IS episode, that doesn't mean it is a bad episode and it wouldn't make a great regular Sliders fanfic story. Or maybe it just doesn't fit with the story arc for the season and would be better in the next season.
Reply to the message confirming you still want to do the episode if it is approved, and we will work out the details on when it is due and how it will fit into the season. You might be asked to add or change a few things to help the episodes that go before of after it.
Story ideas that we probably will not approve:
The following are story ideas that we will ALMOST certinally turn down due to the fact that they don't fit our set plan for Infinite Slides.
Crossovers. We are trying to make this the way TV might have done it had they gone a diffrent route. That makes crossovers unlikley. If you feel you have an idea that would be a great exception, then feel free to submit it anyway; we will read it and reply, just be warned.
Stories where any of the five main characters (Quinn, Wade, Rembrandt, Arturo, Maggie) die. This of course doesn't apply to doubles, just the five stars.
Stories where any of the five stay behind will almost certinally be turned down simply beacause it would be a continuity nightmare for any writers coming afterwards. Not saying it will never happen, just probably not. If you already have another writer or two that is/are willing to write the episodes after yours and complete the story, please submit the idea. As long as they end up together again after the course of the episodes, there should be no problem with it.
Please try not to add an episode similar to one that was used on the show (in any season) or one already used in Infinite Slides. Variety is important.
Don't be afraid of having your story rejected. If it's a good and creative idea, I'm probably game and will help you do it. You might also want to consider joining the staff. If I know you're serious and won't bail on me, you can usually get away with murder.
Questions about writing an approved episode:
How long does it have to be?
Try to make it at least 10,000 to 20,000 words long. If you go over 30,000 words, e-mail me about making it a two-parter.
What do the characters call each other, and how should I write their names?
It is preferable to call the characters Quinn, Wade, Rembrandt, Arturo, and Maggie when not using them as objects of direct address. Why Arturo and not Max or the professor? This is simply so people that are reading it won't get confused. It helps the newbies if he is called Arturo. However, when the characters are talking to each other, they sometimes use other names. Arturo gets called "Professor" a lot by the others. They only use "Max" every now and then; Maggie more often than the others. Rembrandt usually refers to Quinn as "Q-ball." Quinn, Wade, and Maggie call Rembrandt "Remmy" most of the time. And Arturo will use "Miss," "Mr.," and other formal titles almost all of the time.
How do I spell Wade's last name?
WELLES
Sliders or sliders?
I perfer to call them simply sliders. I don't think of "slide" as needing to be capitalized. Unlike people such as Americans, I think of sliders as being more like travelers. So, I personally don't capitalize all forms of the word "slide."
What if I want to add a character we've seen before?
People we've seen a lot (Bennish, Wing, Pavel...) are always welcome if they are just doubles from other worlds. But if you want to use a character like Ryan, Logan, Steven, or the Kromaggs, make sure you get permission first even if only using doubles. They could mess up contingency.
Can I use song lyrics?
If somebody sings a bit, or it's on the radio, or somebody makes a
comment about a certain line of something, that's just fine as long as it
stays in dialog. But please no using long hunks of lyrics just because
they fit the mood.
What rating should I keep my episode to?
All of Infinite Slides is rated TV:14 (basically anything that can air on network television) and must keep that rating. I will let most violence slide, and a few minor bad words are okay, but please do not add any sex scenes! You don't have to edit everything out. Sometimes you need these things for the story. Just please keep it suitable for all ages.
How do I write a thought?
To write what a character is thinking, put * on each side of the thought. Use * the same as you would " and leave other punctuation the same. This is done due to the fact that sometimes format gets messed up and italics don't always work.
How do I stress or emphasize a word?
You can also put * around a word that somebody uses a certain accent on, because again, italics or underlines don't always work.
How do I shout, yell, or scream something?
Again because of format sometimes getting messed up, don't use bold. Instead, try using ALL CAPS for just that word (don't cap a whole sentence - shouting works best when used on less than five words at a time). Also, please don't use any html codes for anything.
How should I separate parts?
When you think your episode needs a break or you have to switch scenes, always use Return (or Enter) then ----- and then another Return, and don't center it because of spacing trouble. It should look like this:
-----
Please don't make chapters.
Anything else about its format?
Yes. Please use two spaces at the end of each sentence, hit Return (or Enter) twice to make paragraphs instead of using Tab, and try to use ' and not ` for such things as contractions and quotes in quotes.
Anything else about punctuation (like when to use commas, how to make quotes, and stuff)?
I am surprised at how many people e-mail me that don't know simple Eng101 things. With stories that are over 10000 words long, I don't have time to explain the answer to every question that I'm asked. So, I've put together some of the basics. Click here for a crash course on what goes where and when to use what.
Final Touches:
All episodes must be beta-read! If you don't have a beta-reader, e-mail me and I'll find you one. Co-writers are also avalable if you feel you need extra help on your episode or don't have time to complete it.
You have to make a graphic to go with your episode. This will be put next to your teaser on the episodes page. Try not to make it too big. If you can't make graphics, I'll look for somebody who can make them for you.
You have to write a short teaser to put with the link to your episode. Keep it short (about 30 to 70 words), but try to make it interesting. Oh, and don't give away the end of the episode!
